How to Tell if Satellite Internet is Right for You
If you think back over the past couple decades, it is clear that the technology behind residential Internet has improved in leaps and bounds since it first entered the home. For many people ò€“ at least, for those who have a broadband wired Internet service like DSL or cable in their home ò€“ slow speed dial up Internet may seem like a relic from the past, and the frustration of having to wait to load a page, download a file, or simply connect to the Internet is something long forgotten. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of people out there for whom the agony of dial up is not behind them. And for these people, satellite Internet is here to save the day.Ò
If you are one of the aforementioned people who do not have access to a DSL or cable network for whatever reason, you are probably all too familiar with the annoying need to either hang up or log off that comes from your Internet having to share a phone line with your phone. As you may already be aware, there are a number of various different reasons why you may not able to connect to a wired broadband network like DSL or cable. The two most likely reasons are that you live in a rural or remote location to where it is either too expensive or difficult for DSL and cable providers to extend their networks of grounded wires, or that you live in an RV and are on the road frequently and obviously unable to hook up to these stationary networks.
Ò
High-speed satellite Internet offers a broadband wireless solution for people who live in places that restrict them from having access to other broadband networks. While it may not be able to deliver connection speeds that are quite as fast as those available to DSL and cable users, the connection speeds available through satellite Internet broadband service can be as fast as 50 times that which is available through even your fastest dial up services.
Ò
If you are tired of waiting around for your dial up Internet service to do its thing and think that satellite Internet might be a good choice for you, here are some questions to ask yourself to help you make sure you are making the right decision before signing up.
Ò
1. Is my home located in a place that where DSL and cable networks are accessible? If it is, then you may be happier going with either of these two options, since ultimately they deliver the fastest connections.
Ò
2. Do I have a clear, unobstructed view of the southern sky from my home? If you do not have access to DSL and cable, you will have access to satellite Internet as long as your satellite dish can be positioned in a way in which it can "communicate" with the satellite located near the equator that is responsible for transmitting signals.
Ò
3. Do I live and travel all the time in an RV? If you are on the road a lot and want to stay connected, getting a portable satellite dish can be a great way to do so.
